The New York City Shopping Guide

Fifth Avenue Shopping

Every single year people come from all around the globe to do a spot of shopping in the Big Apple. There are so many well-known stores here it’s not surprising they attract New Yorkers and tourists alike almost every day of the year.

You may wonder where on earth you can begin your shopping expedition, don’t worry, I’m going to give you a few pointers to help you on your way.

But first remember:

  • Shopping in NYC is a lot of fun, so relax, unwind and enjoy the experience.
  • If you suddenly find your shopping is getting heavy or you have a lot of bags, why not drop them off at your apartment so they don’t get in the way as you carry on shopping?
  • You don’t have to take that much cash with you, most stores accept major credit cards. If you’re coming to NYC from abroad make sure you’re aware of how much your bank will charge you for each transaction.
  • It’s great being able to hop on a plane and off again when you land back home, but do you know how much excess baggage you’re allowed to take with you? It would be a real shame if you have to leave some of your purchases behind because you’ve gone over the limit.
  • Remember to stay safe while you’re shopping, don’t flash your cash or flaunt any of your purchases in public. New York City is one of the safest cities in the USA, but you should still try to be sensible about things.

You don’t have to be rich to shop in the Big Apple, and you can find a lot of great deals here, so you won’t have to worry too much about burning a hole in your credit card.

Barneys

This is an excellent place for you to begin your shopping trip. There are a lot of expensive clothes sold here but they only appear on the lower floors of the store that’s found at 660 Madison Ave at 61st St. You will find some high quality but less-costly clothes on the remaining floors of the building. Sometimes just the experience of seeing how much a Prada suit costs is half of the fun.

Bloomingdales

This store sells a vast array of high priced and good-priced clothes. If you can avoid shopping here on a Saturday then you should because it can get extremely busy. Found on 1000Third Avenue at 59th St, this store is a must-visit place. For those of you who like trendy and hip clothing you may want to shop at the Soho store at 504 Broadway between Spring and Broome Streets.

Tiffany & Co.

This elegant store sells a lot of ‘High-end’ jewelry and products that not many of us can afford, but it’s well worth a visit even if you’re just window shopping.  You will find this beautiful shop and its beautiful wares at 767 Fifth Avenue at 58th St.

Macy’s

This excellent store seems to sell almost every brand of clothing in America. You can find a lot of great deals here though, so you shouldn’t be put off. Found at 151 West 34th St. quite close to Broadway, Macy’s is an integral stop on your shopping trip.

Enjoy your shopping and don’t forget to look out for the great deals the stores in NYC have to offer!
